Hi parents,
Before we get into this weekend’s plans, I wanted to share a little update.
I’m going to be pressing pause on Parent Pocket Guide for now.
I started this newsletter during a season when I was figuring out what I wanted to do next. I wasn’t working at the time, I had lots of ideas floating around, and Parent Pocket Guide became one of the things I decided to try.
And I’m really glad I did.
I’ve loved discovering things happening around the Bay Area, putting together these little weekend lists, and hearing from parents who found something here that became part of their family’s weekend.
But life looks different now. I’m working again, building other things I care about, and I’ve realized that I don’t have the time to give Parent Pocket Guide the attention I want to give it.
And I’d rather pause something I care about than keep doing it halfway.
So this will be the last weekly Parent Pocket Guide for a while.
I’m calling it a pause rather than an ending because I don’t quite know what this might become later. Maybe an occasional seasonal guide. Maybe something else entirely. For now, I’m happy to let this little project rest.
Thank you for reading, clicking, forwarding, and trusting some of your precious weekend time to my recommendations.
Okay. One last weekend together. ❤️
October is settling in, and there’s a lovely mix of things happening around the Bay Area. We’ve got airplanes overhead, a garden morning, a slightly spooky theater show, handmade glass pumpkins, and plenty of ways to enjoy the season.
Whether you’re planning for a preschooler, a teenager, or siblings who rarely agree on an outing, I hope you find something here that works for your family.

🎃 Fall Pocket: Save This for October
The nice thing about fall is that you don’t need a festival every weekend to make it feel special. Here are a few ideas worth keeping in your back pocket for the rest of the month.
For little pumpkin lovers: Lemos Farm in Half Moon Bay offers a festive farm outing with attractions especially appealing to younger children. Learn more
For older kids who want a challenge: Explore Arata’s Pumpkin Farm in Half Moon Bay for a more adventurous fall outing, including its maze. Learn more
For a quieter October afternoon: Visit a neighborhood pumpkin patch, pick out one pumpkin per child, and spend the afternoon painting or carving at home.
For families who love nature: Take a walk at Coyote Point, Sawyer Camp Trail, or one of your neighborhood parks. Look for changing leaves, interesting seed pods, and the small signs that the season is shifting.
For an easy Halloween activity: Burlingame Public Library has a Spooky Bingo challenge running through October 31. Pick up a sheet, complete the activities, and return it for a surprise while supplies last. Learn more
🌱 Little Joy
Let the kids plan one small part of the weekend.
Give each child a choice: a new playground, a library visit, a short walk, a favorite bakery, or an hour making something at home.
If you have kids of different ages, let them take turns choosing.
Sometimes the best family plans aren’t the ones we research for hours. They’re the ones where everyone feels they had a little say.
And that’s our weekend.
Whether you’ve been reading from the beginning or found Parent Pocket Guide more recently, thank you for being here.
I hope this little newsletter has helped you discover a new place, try something different, or simply make one weekend decision a little easier.
The Bay Area has so much to offer families, and I hope you’ll keep exploring it in ways that feel right for yours.
Until next time, whenever that may be. ❤️
